Former Edo State governor Godwin Obaseki has cautioned that politicians who abuse their position of authority will be punished by God. He claims that political authority is a duty bestowed by God to serve the people.
Speaking at an occasion, Obaseki stated that improving the lives of citizens is more important than gaining power for one's own benefit.
He contends that leaders who use their position of authority to profit themselves and their close cronies have betrayed God and the people they were elected to represent.
Power, according to him, is a divine trust that must be used to serve humanity and exalt God. "God will punish you if you are in politics to gain power and that power is exclusively for you, your pals, and those close to you," he declared.
"Because I do not see how you will achieve it if God has given you strength and you can not use it directly for Him, glorifying Him."
Obaseki cautioned that attempts to undermine policies put in place by his administration will eventually hurt common people rather than former leaders.
"I suggest you contribute to what you met, not destroy it, when I see individuals trying to ruin what we did," he stated. "I am not being harmed by you.
