Niger Police Arrest Nursing Student Over Lecturer’s Death
The Niger State Police Command has arrested a nursing student in connection with the death of a university lecturer in Minna.

The incident occurred on January 27, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m., when Engr. Dr. Otori Abdulfatai Aiyede of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, reportedly visited a student, Stella Joseph, at her residence in Tunga, Minna. Aiyede had gone to introduce himself as a newly appointed lecturer at Newgate University.

According to reports, the student served the lecturer a meal of spaghetti and egg during the visit. Shortly after eating, the lecturer allegedly began convulsing and collapsed.

Police operatives from the Tudun-Wada Division were immediately dispatched to the scene. The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The nursing student has been taken into police custody as investigations continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have assured the public that further details will be made available as the investigation progresses.
