Sheikh Ahmad Gumi Denies Reports Claiming He Was Targeted in US Attack
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has dismissed reports claiming that he was targeted in an American attack on Nigerian soil, describing the allegations as false.

In a statement shared on his verified social media page on Sunday night, the Islamic cleric said misleading information was circulating online suggesting that he had made such claims. He stressed that he never said he was a target of any foreign attack and had not even considered such a possibility.

Gumi added that he is currently at home with his family and living without fear, intimidation, or anxiety.

He explained that the reports may have stemmed from remarks he made during a mosque sermon, where he referenced a past security incident linked to Boko Haram

According to him, he had been informed in August 2012 that the group planned to assassinate him, but the attempt failed after an explosive device detonated near his residence, killing the two individuals involved.

The cleric called on media organisations that published the claims to correct their reports and issue apologies for spreading what he described as false information.

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who is based in Kaduna, is a former military imam and previously served as an adviser to the late General Sani Abacha.
