Sheikh Gumi: Outside nations supporting terrorists in Nigeria

He asserted that recent trends of assaults nationwide indicate foreign assistance for terrorists factions active in Nigeria. The Islamic leader emphasized that the current reality contradicts earlier indicators of progress in national security.

Prominent Islamic authority, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has charged international entities with supporting terrorists in Nigeria.

Sheikh Gumi voiced this accusation during a conversation with the BBC Hausa Service.

He highlighted the Abuja-Kaduna highway, which was once viewed as a perilous passage for travelers, stating that the route had become significantly safer in recent months prior to the recent outbreak of violence.

According to him, farmers in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, who had long abandoned their lands due to ongoing threats, had slowly begun to return to farming, suggesting that the security landscape had exhibited signs of stability before the latest surge in assaults.

Gumi maintained that the abrupt change in progress prompts inquiries that must not be overlooked.

He urged the Nigerian administration to enhance intelligence efforts, boost diplomatic interactions, and examine all external connections that could be exacerbating the insecurity.
