Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that governing Rivers State during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari was extremely challenging for him.
Wike made the statement on Wednesday while speaking to members of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State. He claimed that a minister from Rivers State at the time deliberately worked to undermine and frustrate his administration while he was in office.
Although he did not mention any individual by name, the minister was widely understood to be alluding to a former Rivers State governor who served as a federal minister during the previous administration.
Despite the difficulties he faced, Wike said his administration remained determined and focused on delivering meaningful results for the people of Rivers State.
Reflecting on his time in office, he said governing under the previous federal administration was extremely challenging, alleging that a minister from the state made deliberate efforts to hinder progress. According to him, his government stayed committed and was still able to make significant impact through focus and perseverance.
Wike noted that leadership goes beyond awarding contracts, emphasizing that true governance involves engaging with people, managing relationships, and resolving conflicts when they arise. He stressed that while anyone can execute projects, effective leadership requires the ability to navigate challenges, address concerns, and maintain stability in difficult situations.
