NBA Calls on Wike to End ‘One Chance’ Killings in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has received a strong call from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to immediately put an end to the increasing number of murders, kidnappings, and robberies connected to the infamous "one chance" criminal syndicates that operate in Abuja and its satellite towns.

The NBA warned that ongoing insecurity jeopardizes residents' safety, erodes trust in government, and undermines the rule of law in a statement issued on Monday. The NBA expressed serious worry about what it described as a troubling recurrence of violent crimes in the nation's capital.

The association urged the FCT Administration to intensify security surveillance, expand patrols, and improve coordination among security agencies to dismantle criminal networks operating in the capital. It also called on the police to conduct thorough investigations into reported cases and ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted to deter future crimes.

While acknowledging efforts already being made by FCT authorities to enhance security, the NBA emphasized that stronger and more decisive measures are necessary to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of residents.

The association further advised residents of Abuja to remain alert and support security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious activities as efforts continue to curb the menace.
