Matt Prokop, who acted in films including Geek Charming and High School Musical 3: Senior Year, was taken into custody in Victoria County, Texas, on December 24.
He is facing one count of second-degree felony possession of child pornography, along with four misdemeanor charges. These include one count of evading arrest or detention, one count related to a bond or protective order violation, and two counts of resisting arrest, search, or transportation.
The 35-year-old actor is currently being held at the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail as the case proceeds.
Prokop has previously been linked to allegations of domestic abuse involving his former girlfriend and co-star from Geek Charming. In 2014, she obtained a temporary restraining order against him after accusing him of choking her and making threats following the end of their five-year relationship.
Prokop made his on-screen debut in 2007 with an appearance on Hannah Montana, where he played the character Troy McCann. He later featured in episodes of several television series, including The Office, Medium, Good Luck Charlie, and In the Motherhood.
He also appeared in the 2010 film Furry Vengeance, playing the son of Brendan Fraser’s character. In addition, he later appeared alongside Sarah Hyland in a 2012 episode of Modern Family.
In High School Musical 3, Prokop played Jimmie Zara, a freshman member of the East High basketball team. His most recent screen appearance was in the 2013 film April Apocalypse.
In 2024, Prokop shared on social media that he had become engaged and had also launched an OnlyFans account.
Hyland recently spoke about surviving alleged domestic abuse during a public appearance in 2024, reflecting on the emotional strength required to endure such experiences. She said it takes courage to face each day while carrying struggles that others may not see, noting how easy it is to feel isolated or misunderstood, regardless of personal resilience.
She also expressed appreciation for the support she received from her on-screen Modern Family mother, Julie Bowen, during the period when she was ending her relationship with Prokop. Hyland said Bowen and other close supporters helped her through a difficult chapter, adding that she hopes to offer the same kind of support to others facing similar situations.
Bowen later spoke about being there for Hyland during a 2024 interview, saying she simply stepped in as a responsible adult at the right moment. She downplayed her role, noting that anyone else in a similar position would likely have done the same, and added that her actions were guided by care and affection for Hyland.
