Ten Men Charged in France Over Rape of Drugged Five-Year-Old

French authorities have brought charges against 10 men between the ages of 29 and 50 as part of an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a five-year-old boy who was reportedly drugged.

The case stems from an inquiry launched in mid-February 2025 after officials were alerted to a drug-fuelled sexual gathering that allegedly took place the night before in the northern city of Lille. Investigators believe the child was introduced to adult men by his own father and subjected to severe sexual abuse, with authorities alleging that chemical substances were used to incapacitate the victim.

According to prosecutors, the suspected crimes occurred over several months, from late 2024 through mid-February 2025. The case has been referred to an investigating judge and includes accusations of rape and sexual assault involving the covert administration of drugs intended to impair the victim’s awareness or ability to resist.

Following months of investigative work, charges were filed against the 10 suspects, though officials have not disclosed the exact timing. At least one of those charged is alleged not to have directly taken part in the abuse but to have received video footage of the acts and failed to report it to authorities.

Prosecutors also confirmed that one of the central suspects died by suicide while in pretrial detention last year. No further details about that individual have been released.

The child is currently in the care of his mother. She and the father were no longer in a relationship at the time the alleged abuse occurred.

The case has renewed attention on so-called “chemsex,” a practice involving the use of potent drugs to intensify sexual encounters. While most often discussed in the context of adult communities, health professionals and advocacy groups have long warned of its serious risks, which include addiction, overdose, the spread of infectious diseases, and severe psychological harm. They note that the number of people affected by such practices continues to grow.
